“Playing In The Dirt”

Listen now

Hosea 10:12 (Church Bible page 896)

Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you. Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and

showers righteousness on you.

Hosea 10:12

(Church Bible p. 896)

God likes to play in the dirt.

On the sixth day of creation

“The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”  Genesis 2:7

In the broken and contrite heart

"I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”  Isaiah 57:15b

          In our physical bodies

“…so that His life may be revealed in our mortal body.”  2 Corinthians 4:11b

God invites us to play in the dirt.

          Planting

“Sow for yourselves righteousness…”

          Harvesting

“…reap the fruit of unfailing love…”

          Cultivating

“…break up your unplowed ground…”

          Watering/Fertilizing

“…until he comes and showers righteousness on you.”

Some Planting Principles

God calls us to get beneath the surface.

The heart of Hosea 10:12 is a call to prayer“Seek the Lord until he comes.”

Prayer is where collaboration with God begins.

          Prayer plants seeds.

          Prayer harvests fruit.

          Prayer cultivates the ground.

Prayer waits expectantly for God to give the increase.

“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.”  1 Corinthians 3:6

We are too busy not to pray.

“…until he comes and showers righteousness on you.”

          It’s time to pray.
