“Behold I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

“Gods Answer for the Sin of Prayerlessness”

Luke 11:13   (Church Bible page 1029)

Listen now

“If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit

 to those who ask him!”

1.  This is a prayer promise.

“…to those who ask…” v.13

“Lord, teach us to pray.”  Luke 11:1

“The sin of prayerlessness is one of the deepest roots of evil.  No one could plea himself free from this.  Nothing so reveals the defective spiritual life…as a lack of believing and unceasing prayer.”  Andrew Murray, The Prayer Life, p.6

2.  This is a presence promise.

“…give the Holy Spirit….” v.13

“God’s giving is inseparably connected with our asking.  He applies this especially to the Holy Spirit.  As surely as a father on earth gives bread to his child, so God gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.  The whole working of the Spirit is ruled by one great law:  God must give it and we must ask for it.”  Andrew Murray, The Ministry of Intercession, p.21

3.  This is a plentiful promise.

“...how much more....” v.13

We pray too little!  There is even a lack of hope for any great change due to force of habit, and the pressured feeling that prayer is a duty.”  Andrew Murray, The Ministry of Intercession, p. 13

“It is only the prayerless that are too proud to own up to prayerlessness.”… It is necessary for each individual to mention his sin by name.  The confession must be severely personal.”  Andrew Murray, The Prayer Life, p. 9-13

“The greatest stumbling block in the way of victory over prayerlessness is the secret feeling that we shall never obtain the blessing of being delivered from it.”  Andrew Murray, The Prayer Life, p.63

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”  Matthew 5:6

“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.”  John 7:37b

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”  Isaiah 55:1

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”  Psalm 42:1-2

“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”  Psalm 63:1

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:13
